Director of Studies
With overall responsibility for student learning and special responsibility for Catechesis.
As Director of Studies, Caroline has responsibility for the quality of provision for student learning and support, and for the training of tutors and markers. She is also co-responsible for the development and enhancement of existing and new programmes, and with particular oversight of the pedagogical and catechetical components of the programmes .
Caroline has worked in Catholic higher education in Birmingham for 17 years, in the fields of Thomist philosophy, Catechetics and the Catholic heritage of Sacred Art, in seminaries and lay institutions, and in both traditional and distance education.
Caroline was privileged to be one of three lay women experts at the 13th General Synod of Bishops on New Evangelisation for the Transmission of the Faith, Oct 2012, and the receiver of the ‘Message for Catechists’ from Pope Benedict XVI on 11th October 2012 for the Opening of the Year of Faith, the 20th anniversary of the promulgation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the 50th Anniversary of the Opening of the Second Vatican Council.
Caroline's publications include: ‘The vocation of the Catechist’, in Hear O Islands, edited by Fr John Redford 2002; ‘At the School of Mary, Woman of the Eucharist’ in The Mystery of Faith, edited by Rev Dr. J. McEvoy and Rev Dr. M Hogan, Dublin: Veritas, 2005, and Nativity, A Visual Meditation, Family Publications. 2008. She wrote a ‘Learning through Art’ series for 10 years in the catechetical journal, The Sower, from 2000-2013, and a ‘Catechetical Methodology’ series, co-written with Marianne Cuthbertson, for the same journal, 2009–2011. Caroline was the co-producer of Echoes, Parish-based training for handing on Faith, CTS, 2003, and of ‘Anchor’ Catechetical Resource, 2010, privately published. She was also joint editor of and contributor to the proceedings from a Rome conference: The Pedagogy of God, Emmaus Road Publishing, 2011.
