Petroc Willey, BD, STL, PhD, PhD

Reader in the New Evangelisation

With overall responsibility for curriculum development and special responsibility for New Evangelisation.

As Reader in the New Evangelisation, Petroc works to develop the research and publications dimensions of the School's work. Petroc also assists in teaching and curriculum development in the area of New Evangelisation.

Petroc is Professor of Catechetics at Franciscan University in Steubenville. He is also a Consultor for the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelisation. He has worked in Catholic higher education, in Oxford and in Birmingham, for more than twenty-five years, in seminary and lay institutions, and in both traditional and distance education.

He gained his first degree in theology from King’s College London and his STL from Maynooth in Ireland. He has two doctorates in philosophy, from Liverpool University and from the Lateran Pontifical University.

Well-known as a speaker on catechetics and evangelisation in the United States, England and Ireland, Petroc was editor of the catechetical journal, The Sower, from 1992-2013, and has authored numerous study texts in philosophy and theology at adult, undergraduate and graduate levels. His most recent publications include The Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Craft of Catechesis, with Christoph Cardinal Schonborn, Barbara Morgan, and Pierre de Cointet (Ignatius Press), ‘La Pédagogie de Dieu et la Catéchèse: Fondements’, in Waltraud Linnig (ed), Catéchèse et Pédagogie de Dieu Aujourd’hui (Parole et Silence) and ‘Education: An Ethical Activity’, in Andrew B Morris (ed): Applied Ethics – Catholic Education Across Four Continents (Cambridge Scholars Publishing).
